The flourish time of Yamay Sugar Factory was in the decades from 1930’s to 1940’s. The trains which delivery sugarcanes went up and down the streets at that time. This is a common sight at that time. Because of the decline in the sugar refining industry, this old factory was converted into a tourist attraction later. You only image the grand occasion of the sugar factory from the old train shown in the factory. The tourists can eat the ice sticks that are made right at the factory. They also sell the products Taiwan Sugar produce and Taiwan famous agricultural products. They exhibit farm antiques, sugar making, imperial order of the Qing Dynasty, and so on.

Miao-Tung is the best known snack food street in Fongyuan. It is located at Temple (Tze-Chi Temple) East. Oyster soup and Ching-Shui pork chop noodle are the most two popular here. Big oysters are completely covered in corn powder. Then drop them into the boiling soup and cook steadily. When you have this delicious oyster soup, you can add fried garlic and cilantro into the soup. Or oysters are dipped with the black vinegar and then eaten. These seasonings make oyster soup better taste. Ching-Shui pork chops are made with the selected chops which are steamed after fried. It is served with chops and noodle in seasoned soup.

Have you ever seen Alishan's Sacred Tree? You absolutely cannot miss to see the Yamay millenary camphor tree. It is commonly known as “Yamay Camphor Tree”. Unlike other giant camphor trees, two trees merged growing into a giant tree. It is really magic. Under the large camphor tree is the good place where local residents have commerce and intercourse with neighbors or enjoy the cool. The wine is very famous in this place. Tzeming from the Chinese adage means “show kindness towards people”.
 
Houli House Farm is located to the north of Fengyuan. On summer it is a charming scene. It is the famous horse-riding training center in Taiwan. They have more than one hundred horses. It is the horse farm with the best equipments in Taiwan. It covers an area more than 30 hectares. During the winter and summer vacation, they help China Youth Corps to hold Houli Riding and Shooting Troop. More than two hundred thousand students have ever joined the Troop. Except riding horses, there are also horse carriages, arrow-shooting fields, healthful skateboards in the farm. They also have a camping ground for BBQ. They provide tourists various entertainments. Tourists can enjoy wonderful horseback riding holidays.

Tai-An Train Station was set in the valley between two mountains. Due to the limitation of steep slope, the station was set under the roadway. As a result, the entrance was under the platform, which was a special design in Taiwan. There is an antique that was worth seeing on the platform. By observing the pillars of canopy carefully, you will find that they were made by the rails produced in the early twentieth century. A clear mark of the Office of the Governor-General and a mark indicating the manufacture date in 1905 are still clearly marked on the pillars (Excerpt from Taichung County Tourguide web site). There is a famous memorial stone called Earthquake Damage Memorial Stone in the Tai-An Train Station. Along the way you can enjoy the beautiful scenery. You can take a train trip at the old railway mountain route by yourself.

Taichung Country Seaport Art Center is located in Cingshuei Township. It laid its east side to Ao Phong Mountain and its west side to Taichung Harbor, as well as the north side to Da-Chia River. The center was built up just between the hills and the plains, with the interpretation of Courtyard Space style as the whole, the building is designed by Fujian architecture with traditional academy style and elegant atmosphere. the center is mainly divided into Exhibition Hall, Concert Hall, Artist Archives, Conference Hall, Open-Air Stage Recreation Area, Classrooms and Administration Area (Excerpt from Taichung Country Seaport Art Center website). There are aperiodic performing activities in every hall, for example, incised bamboo and carved pottery exhibition, folkgames and fancyworks, theater performances, and so on. Elderly people from all over Taiwan gather to play Nanguan (literally "southern pipe"), sing folk songs, perform a Taiwan opera the corridor in the Center. The activities provide a festive atmosphere for the Art Center.

Tie-Zhan Mountain, protection forests, is developed as a new scenic spot. The landscape areas are Jian-Jing antique objects, Martyr’s Shrine, Military cemetery, Cheng-gong Zheng statue, Zhong-Zheng park, Yong-Zin park, and so on. Among them the Jian-Jing antique objects had the most legendary. It is said that Cheng-gong Zheng used his sword to stick into the ground and got a fresh spring. This spring is never dried-up in drought days. From the Jian-Jing antique object going upward can reach Martyr’s Shrine. Standing on the sea-watching pavilion above Martyr’s Shrine, you can see the scenery of the Da-En River.

Jhenlan Temple is located on Shuntian Rd., Dajia Township. This temple in a glory and solemn appearance attracts many followers come to worship. The Arts and Crafts Accessories beside Dajia Junior High School is a palace-style architecture and heritage collections are exhibited occasionally. Jhenlan Temple has a history of over 200 years. The followers are found all over the country. The most important event in a year is Mazu patrols and pilgrimages in lunar 23, March every year. The day is Mazu’s birthday. The Mazu patrols and pilgrimages in 8 days and 7 nights have a history of over 100 years. This activity is one of the oldest and most grand religious activities in Taiwan.

The campus of Tunghai University is wide and beautiful. It is famous for Luce Memorial Chapel. Royal Poincianas lining both sides of the street are like a green tunnel. The college buildings in a traditional Chinese courtyard style locate on the campus, so it is a refined university and has the title named “the most beautiful campus”. Luce Memorial Chapel is a representative landscape in Tunghai University. The chapel designed by world-class architect, Leoh-Ming Pei. The chapel is famous for its curve-shaped, upside-down-boat appearance and is like a sail to fly into the heaven.

In recent years, Jingming 1st Street is a new model of Taiwan public space art. It is a commercial street and a pedestrian-only area with foreign flavor. Fengle Sculpture Park is the first sculpture park in Taiwan. It covers an area about 6 hectares. It contains a lake, an arched bridge with drifting clouds form at the lake, sculptures which display the history of Taichung City, and the works of senior sculptors. It covers an area approximately 963 tsubos. There are the centers for research, exhibition, reservation, promotion and data and the departments for audio-visual speech and administration in the museum. The museum collects the works from the Ming and Qing Dynasties to present-day. It is located at the riverside coast under Dong Feng Bridge, Dongshih Town. This park cover an area approximately 10 hectares. There are a soccer pitch, a softball field and the open green lawn in the park. Because it is located at the starting point of the Central-Cross-Island-Highway, many people go slight-seeing in the holiday. It become a new open spot.

From every October to March next year, there is fruit production in the orchard. One is various mandarin oranges, and another is lychee harvested in late June and new cultivar of crisp peaches and persimmons harvested in July. You can also visit Ancient Farm equipments in the orchard. It is a good place for holiday outings and parent-child activities.

The former Taiwan Provincial Government, Bureau of Cultural Affairs rented the seven stocks (Stock 20-26) in the backyard of Taichung Railway Station in summer 1998. They were named Stock 20 after renovation. Stock 22-26 offer a free creative space for the artists. Stock 20-21 are designated for exhibition, theater and café. The birth of Stock 20 transforms these old stocks into arts hall. No matter the guests will go south or north, they can go to the train station ahead of time. They can drink a cup of coffee leisurely or enjoy arts Stock 20 shows. Even if you do not take the train, Stock 20 is the place where you can enjoy a feast of the mind.

Architectural features of buildings in the entire park adopt the traditional Mingnan-style of the late Qing Dynasty. They are with the classic beauty. This Park contains three major zones including Folklore Museum, Taiwan Folklore Museum, and Folk-art House. Except above zones, there are Folk-art Plaza and the courtyard garden in the Park. There are an arched bridge, a covered arcade, a garden, Flowing Water, and a lotus pool in the courtyard garden. The park provides the public an amusement space to experience Chinese traditional culture. The traditional courtyard house in the Folklore Museum represents the life styles of Mingnan people during the late Qing Dynasty, including a red canopy bed with the traditional style, a dresser, and wooden chairs. You will see the appliances aboriginal people used to eat, wear, house and to travel in Taiwan Folklore Museum, for example, the bride sedan chair.
